590 Orange Center Road

Located west of the Green, this section of the Russell property contains a large side-door white shingled house built in 1876, and a pasture to the south. The house was remodeled in 1926 in a colonial style. An antique fanlight graces the front door. It is the same design as two found on two center door colonials built circa 1830. These were manufactured in Bridgeport, CT. An old attached shed and summer kitchen were removed and several rooms rearranged during the remodeling.

In 1974 an enclosed porch and patio were added to the south and west sides at the rear of the structure. The property now contains a two-car garage. When used as a dairy and potato farm it also contained a carriage house, horse stables and many sheds. Prior to 1926 Mr. Elford Russell, for whom the house was built, conducted a road construction business from the premises.

It is interesting to note that Elford Russell sold Parcel 3 to C.N. Rogers in 1881. In 1876, according to Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Russell's records, he had built a new house for himself slightly northwest of the one he sold to C.N. Rogers, indicating that at that time he owned all of the land at the southern and southwestern end of the Green. That he acquired a good bit of it after 1865 from "heirs of Jonah Rogers" is indicated by boundaries described in the Coppola property deed. And that, then, ultimately takes it back to ownership by Bryans, no doubt. Whatever might come to light as a result of more searching on the Olson land would probably apply to this parcel.
