Parcel 10
630 Orange Center Road

This white frame two-story shingled house probably was built between 1824-60. The Victorian style porch is not original and a glass enclosed porch was added in 1979. A large barn located on the north side of the house near the street was moved to the rear of the property about 1920. It was then used for livestock, chickens and hay storage. Severely damaged by a hurricane in 1955, it was removed.

Two original fireplaces remain on the second floor, and the front parlor contains the old mantel and nicely panelled doors. Upstairs there are wide floor boards, and the roof beams are hand hewn and pegged. In 1920 three central fireplaces on the first floor were removed, and the present kitchen and bath were developed from an attached shed at the rear of the structure. An old "garage" and new "barn" are on the property in 1986.

The deed which seemed to cover the sale of the land for $329.52 was from John Treat of Vienna, Trumbull County, Ohio dated February 27, 1824 to Sam. Potter … "a piece of land situated near the meetinghouse in No. Milford, called 'Fenn Lot' bounded east on highway, south on land of Richard Bryan Treat, west on my own land (John Treat) and north on land of Aaron and Wm. Fenn and on the burying ground, containing five acres, 1 rood and 38 rods." This was recorded in the deeds kept in West Haven in Vol. 1, Page 63.
