Parcel 18
611 Orange Center Road
This shingled federal period L-shaped frame house with pillared porch was built in 1838 by Benjamin Treat Clark (3). It later was owned successively by Dr. Josiah M. Colburn and Leverett B. Treat, and returned to Clark ownership in the later 1800s.
At one time it was used as a corn crib. Later it was rented to George White, the station master. The house was also used as a boarding school in the late 1800s when rented to Mrs. Kirby. The present kitchen was added at that time. Around 1850 Mr. Ingham had a shoe shop on the premises.
From 1916 to 1972 a room of the house was used as an office for the Orange Cemetery Association, and groundskeeping equipment is still in use in the rear outbuildings. At present there are three outbuildings including a three-bay garage and two chicken coops. Some sheds were removed from the rear of the property in 1950.
