Parcel 21
603 Orange Center Road

This large white central door colonial house has been in the Clark Family for many years. There is a large central hall with two rooms on either side. A wide Dutch door with its original bolt and cast iron knocker is topped by a handsome leaded fanlight. There are four fireplaces in the house, one of which has a granite hearth. The front room on the north side has a dentilled ceiling molding with the same motif repeated at the fireplace. A Victorian porch was added on the south side and an enclosed porch at the rear was added in 1968.

The outbuildings include a large barn, an open garage, and a Victorian building which was moved from the old Fair Grounds opposite High Plains School on Orange Center Road.

It has been impossible to trace the ownership of this property from land records prior to 1869. However in searching them for Parcels 23, 24 and 25 descriptions of these deeds indicate that Benjamin Clark (1) owned this property circa 1810. In addition Benjamin Clark (2) sold land (Parcel 19) for town use in 1821. Parcel 17 was sold to Dennis Stone in 1830. Benjamin also built a house on Parcel 18 in 1838.
