Years after the tragedy, when Bowen had disappeared and perhaps died, in overhauling an old wall on the opposite side of the road from where Bowen tied his horse that fatal morning, William Prudden and his man pulled from the wall the long sought-for suit of clothes, all spattered with stains which they assumed could only be blood. Many years later, after being abandoned by Bowen, and sick and destitute, Mrs. Ira Clark came back to her brother-in-law's house, where she died.
