The authorities of Hamden had him committed to the Asylum at Middletown, but he made his escape, and when last seen in Danbury, he appeared very feeble, as he was suffering from a cancer of the lip. In the New Haven Register of March 24, 1889, is an account of his death.
He was found lying dead in a cave at Mt. Pleasant, near Sing Sing, New York.
