MODERN ORANGE
After War was declared on December 8, 1941, Orange sprang into action with all the other towns of the State. An airplane spotter tower was erected in Clarence Hall's back-yard and was manned by faithful wishful volunteers, day and night, through all kinds of weather. This service was continued until the Government decided such service was no longer necessary. A report center was maintained in the Town Hall, on a twenty-four hour schedule. The town met every demand that was required, with patriotic fervor.
Orange has come a long way in the last one hundred and twenty-five years. If, as Emerson said. ''the use of history is to give value to the present hour and its duty," then this simple word-picture of the past is a challenge and an incentive to the youth of the present to continue to weave the pattern that was so carefully started long ago.
