The Homemaking Group of the Bethany Farm Bureau will meet Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 A.M. at the Town Hall for its annual Christmas party. Gifts and favorite recipes will be exchanged.
A group of Farm Bureau members met the evening of Dec. 5th at the home of Mrs. William J. Stevens to work on fabric and leather handbags. Those present were: Mrs. Grant Durley, Mrs. Henry Jehan, Mrs. Carl Bergstrom, Mrs. Stephan Szirbik, Mrs. Harold Beecher, Mrs. Robert Ringenberg, and Mrs. William Stevens.
The Jolly Juniors 4H Club will meet at 4 o'clock at the home of Joella Downs on Carrington Road.
The annual Christmas party for the members of the Bethany Grange No. 188 P of H, will be held Thursday, Dec. 21 at 8:00 P.M. Each membe ris asked to bring one 25[cent] adult and two 25[cent] children's gifts for the grab bags. It is also planned to send a Christmas box of small gifts to Miss Jane Murphy who is in hte Physician's and Surgeons Hospital.
The children's Grange party will be beld at the Town Hall, Saturday, Dec. 23rd at 2:00 P.M. The plans include movies, a Santa Claus, a Christmas tree and a Grab Bag.
Mr. George Cahill of Northrup Road, who has been in the hospital for several months, is expected home for Christmas. Mr. Raymond Cahill, who is finishing his first semester at Fordham University, will also be home.
Marjorie Shutkin has recenlty opened her new "Clothesline" shop at Hatfield and Sperry Roads. The building, which is a converted chicken house, was remodeled by Mr. George Hazard and Mr. Carl Johnson - "The Clothesline" will be open every evening until Christmas, and Mrs. Shutkin will be glad to help husbands, fathers and sons select gifts.
SCOUTING AWARDS PRESENTED
Warren Downs, Scoutmaster of Troop I, Bethany Boy Scouts of America, has announced the following awards made at a Court of Honor held on December 8: Tenderfoot Badges to Charles Rusgrove, John Lonergan; Second Class Badges to James Johnson, Robert Simpson, John Downs, Bruce Winter, and Robert C. Williams; First Class Badges to John Edmondson and Howard Williams; Star Scout Badge to Harold Simpson, Jr. Merit badges were awarded to Hoard Williams for Firemanship, First Aid and Hog Raising; Russell La Croix for Home Repairs and Firemanship; Fred Clark for Firemanship and First Aid; and Warren Downs, Jr. for First Aid.
Galen Sarno was welcomed into the Bethany Troop as a Second Class Scout, his status, formerly acquired in California.

The same Young Peoples Group has also been busily engaged in collecting and repairing used toys, which will be distributed to bed-ridden children at the New Haven Hospital during this week. Members of the organization report a fine response to their drive, and have derived great pleasure from this worthwhile endeavor.
The annual Community Carol Sing of the First Church of Christ will be held at the Church on December 24, starating at 4:00 PM. Singing, to which the public is cordially invited, will be led by Mr. Thomas Seymour, with Mr. William Waite at the organ. A Carol Sing Tea, sponsored by the Woodbridge Club, will follow immediately after the singing, at the Town Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ingholt are in charge of the Tea.
Mr. and Mrs. William Shee are chairmen of the annual Woodbridge Club Christmas Party, to be given for the children of Club members on Saturday, December 23, from 3 to 4:30 PM. Assisting the Shees are Mr. Ray Elmendorf, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Prouty, Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Merselis, and Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Lamb. Highlilght of the evening will be the appearance of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, who with the assistance of twelve older children, will distribute presents to all children in the first, second and third school grades. Refreshments will be served, and Mr. William Waite will lead the carol singing.
The Woodbridge Education Association met last Tuesday evening to discuss propsed changes in the certification of public school teachers which may be brought before the coming session of the State Legislature. The officers of the W. E. A. are as follows: President-Mrs. Colin Rathgeber, Vice-president-Mrs. Peter Malley, Secretary-treasurer-Miss Nancy Perkins. Teacheers from both Center and Warner schools attend the meeting.
During the past six weeks the New Haven Teacher's College has sent student teachers to the Woodbridge schools for an experiment in practice teaching. Miss Mary Britton assisted Mrs. Greene in the kindergarten. Miss Marcia Cohen assisted Miss Nancy Perkins in the third grate and Miss Marion Perkins assisted Mrs. Colin Rathgeber in the sixth grade at the Center school. Mr. James Fitzgerald asssisted Mrs. Peter Malley in the sevent and eighth grade at the Warner school.
The Woodbridge Recreation Committee is sponsoring a badminton and ping pong group Tuesday evening, Dec. 19th at the Town Hall. Mr. Colin Rathgeber is the instructor. The young people of the town are invited from 7 to 9 o'clock and the adults are urged to come from 9 to 11 o'clock. Mrs. William Stoddard is chairman of the Rcreation Committee.
A pageant given by the children and teachers of Center School, Woodbridge will be held in the Sanctuary at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, Dec. 19th.
The Mother's Club of Woodbridge will hold a Christmas party in the Social Rooms of the Church at 8:00 P.M. on Dec. 18th.
The Church School Party will be held from 2:30-4:30 P. M. on Saturday, Dec. 16th in the Social Rooms. This party is for children up through the fourth grade.
