Contest for Children
THE AMITY STAR takes pleasure in presenting herewith the first of a series of contests for the children of the communities served by this paper. These contests are designed to test the children’s powers of observation and to stimulate imaginative thinking among them. Assistance given by adults, therefore, will merely defeat the purposes of the contests.
The contest rules are few and simple. No box-tops need be sent in, no soap or washing powder has to be sold. It costs nothing to enter. Here are the instructions:

• Any child in the Bethany or Woodbridge school may enter.
• The contestant must write, in his or her own words, a description of the drawing printed above and tell what it is – or what it seems to be. Answers must be limited to 100 words, and must be written on one side of the paper only.
• Entries must be mailed to Contest Editor, The Amity Star, Bethany – and, for the first of the series, entries must be postmarked not later than February 4, 1951.
• Two prizes will be awarded: $1.00 for the best entry from Woodbridge and $1.00 for the best entry from Bethany.
