Bethany Library Board Holds Annual Meeting, Elects 1951 Officers
The Annual Meeting of the Bethany Library Association, Inc., was held at the Library on January 29. Among those present were: Morgan Baker, Mrs. Harold A. Beecher, Mrs. Henry Bunting, Mrs. And Mrs. Robert L. Calhoun, Dwight B. Downs, Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Hinman, Mrs. J. Stephen Knight, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Treffers, and Gilbert H. Whitlock.
OFFICERS CHOSEN
Officers for 1951 were elected as follows: President, Dwight B. Downs; Secretary, Mrs. Henry P. Treffers; Treasurer, Gilbert H. Whitlock; Trustees, Harold A. Beecher, Robert L. Calhoun, Edward H. Hinman; Directors, Mrs. William H. Bice, J. Stephen Knight; Book Committee, Mrs. Alex Fenwick, Miss Elizabeth Fox, Mrs. J. Stephen Knight, Mrs. Nicholas J. Spykman, Mrs. Henry P. Treffers; Librarian, Mrs. Edward H. Hinman; Custodian, Elford H. Lounsbury.
REPORTS SUBMITTED
Retiring Treasurer Robert L. Calhoun presented an annual report and a proposed budget for the coming year. Mrs. Edward H. Hinman, the Librarian, submitted a complete report of the Library’s activities for the past year, showing that the total circulation was 7,338 books and discussing the various exhibits, the inter-loan of books between the Bethany and Woodbridge libraries, the activities of the Book Committee, and the belief that television may be responsible for a decrease in the use of the Library by some groups.
A House Committee was appointed at this meeting, the members being Mrs. Alex Fenwick, Mrs. Theodore Sizer, and Henry P. Treffers, the retiring Secretary of the Association.

Woodbridge Fires
Six men and two trucks of the Woodbridge Fire Department responded to an alarm at 2:00 P.M. on January 25, for a fire at the Woodbridge Country Club, at Johnson and Ansonia Roads. Grease in a kitchen range had ignited, and it was feared that the fire might spread. By an excellent choice of extinguishing agents (Carbon Dioxide and baking soda), the firemen put out the blaze and prevented damage of any kind. The recall was sounded at 2:45 P.M.
The Woodbridge Fire Department responded to an alarm at 10:40 A.M. last Saturday for a fire on the property of Joseph Sill on Park Lane. The kitchen of the three-room cottage was lost, but the rest of the structure was saved. Thirteen men and two trucks answered the call. The recall was sounded at 11:45 A.M.

SEYMOUR NOTES
Norman Sargent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sargent of Skocorat Street, is a Private in the Air Corps.
Peter Gemmell, son of Mrs. Margaret Gemmell of Dogburne Road, Orange, has left to join the Air Corps.
Harold Donovan is signing up recruits for the Big Community Talent Show to be given on March 8. The show will take place at the High School, and the proceeds will go to the George Hummel Little League.
The Parent-Teacher Association held a card party and cake sale at the Maple Street School for the benefit of the Hot Lunch Program on Tuesday, January 30.
The Civil Defense Program Committee sponsored a movie on the Atom Bomb last Tuesday evening in the Town Hall.
The Rotary Club held its regular weekly meeting on Tuesday at Joe’s Restaurant. Alfred Koehler was in charge of the meeting. Roger E. Day, President of Bristol Brass Corporation, spoke on Big Business and Small.
Mrs. William Lane, Chairman of The March of Dimes, reports that Seymour gave generously to this worthy cause during the recent drive.

Roger Street and Wayne Bell, of Woodbridge, and George McKiernan and Paul Bergstrom, of Bethany, left last Friday at 11:00 A.M. for a trip to Montreal, Canada. They returned at 9:00 P.M. on Saturday, having traveled more than 990 miles in the interim.

LENTEN MEETING AT WOODBRIDGE CHURCH
The first of six Wednesday evening Lenten meetings will be held in the parlor of the First Church of Christ this coming Wednesday, February 7, at 8:00 o’clock.
The speaker will be John Oliver Nelson, Direcdtor of Religious Field Work and Associate Professor of Christian Vocation at the Yale Divinity School, and formerly an executive with the Federal Council of Churches.
Dr. Nelson’s topic will be “Can All Christionas Be One?” and will emphasize the ecumenical awakening in this generation.

GARDEN CLUB TO MEET
The Garden Club of Woodbridge will meet on February 6 at 2:00 o’clock in the Woodbridge Town Hall. Ethel Hall Bjerkoe, lecturer and author, will speak on “The Period House – Today’s Interior”. Tea will be served by Mrs. Clarence F. Baldwin, Chairman, and the Mrs. James Angier, H. Bruno Arnold, E. Wight Bakke, Allen E. Baldwin, Robert E. Barnberg, Ralph E. Baright, William E. Bassett, Lewis S. Beach, And William T. Beazley.
