Members of the Orange Badminton Club entertained a small group of players from the Woodbridge and Westville Badminton Club last Thursday. This was the first informal tournament held between these towns, and many fine games were run off. The Orange Club has three unusually well-planned courts, rivalling the best to be found in the East. The Woodbridge-Westville group wishes to express its thanks to the Orange Club and announces that a return engagement will take place at the Congregational Church in Westville next month. Howard Sharpe made the arrangements for the tourney, and the visiting team consisted of Kathy Bishop, Sally McKiernan, Richard Townsend, Charles Beetz, Donald Ford, Jo Anne Lunt, and Mr. Colin Rathgeber, instructor. Mr. Charles Beetz, Senior, assisted the group with transportation.
After a splendid season, the Bethany Boys' Christ Church Basketball team, which had reached first place in their division, was defeated on Saturday Evening in the finals for the class by St. Luke's of New Haven. The score was 45 to 22. The boys have made a fine showing, in spite of the lack of practice facilities here in town. Great credit is due Harold Simpson, who has made the arrangements for their practice sessions at the Y.M.C.A. in New Haven and has acted as Coach throughout the season.
In the finals of the Bethany Community School basketball competition, the winners of the boys' first and second rounds, the Pee Wees and the Sharpshooters, met in an exciting contest. Captain John Lonergan's Pee Wees finally won. Since Margaret Koval's team had won both rounds in the girls' competition, no playoff was necessary.
The boys of the Community School basketball team lost a game to Southbury Training School, in Southbury last Thursday, by a score of 23 to 15. On Friday they journeyed to Prespect to take a 26-21 contest from the Prospect team.
