DAVID DEAN SMITH JR.
Comes word now of television's biggest and most exciting adventure on the industrtial scene. It happened in Fontana, Calif., at the big Kaiser steel plant. . . . which covers 3 square miles of territory. Television went there to cover the steel-making process from the beginning to end. And it was a major task. In the first place there was not enough cable to cover the three mile area. So technicians set up little microwave stations all over the plant to connect the cameras with the master control truck. There were four cameras moved about from strategic spot to strategic spot. The telephone company built a special relay station on Mt. Diablo near Pomona...by means of which the picture was gotten into Los Angeles in 2 jumps. From a technical standpoint this has been the most unusual TV show ever to done. And it points the way to giving us more and more of an inside view of industrial workings. Do you have your television set yet?
It's wise to buy your television set from people who KNOW TV...and guarantee reception. We've been in the television business from the beginning. And we have a top service organization. And we carry MAGNAVOX...the outstanding name in TV for '51. Come in to see the model you prefer in action. You'll make the best buy at DAVID DEAN SMITH, JR., 262 Elm St. Phone 8-1101.

MANLEY --
(Continued from page 1)
before he was old enough to vote. He was Registrar of Voters for four years, was a member of the local ration board throughout the last war, served on the Board of Zoning Appeals, and had been a Selectman for ten years. During the first eight years he represented the Democratic party. In 1949 he ran as an Independent and won re-election on a "write-in" vote.
As a contractor Mr. Manley built many homes in Orange and at the time of his death was engaged in developing Manley Heights, off Race Brook Road. He was also the owner of the Orange Plumbing and Heating Company.
He was a member of Annawon Lodge No. 115. A. F. & A. M., of West Haven; E. G. Storer Lodge of Perfection, Scottish Rite; the Orange Volunteer Fire Department; and the Congregational Church Men's Club.
He leaves his widow, Margaret Haase Manley; four sons, Richard, David, Harold, and Elmer, Jr.; two brothers, George and Harold; three sisters, Mrs. V. L. Hyland of St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Lillian Moloy of Hartford, and Mrs. Gladys Fudge of Madison; and his father, Frank Manley, of Brattleboro, Vermont.

ORANGE NOTES
A Regional Training School for Advanced Fire Instruction Classes has been meeting each Friday evening at the headquarters of the Orange Volunteer Fire Department. Edward H. Miner, of the Woodbridge Fire Department, and Gilbert H. Whitlock, of the Bethany Fire Department, have been attending as representatives of their organizations. The course covers 30 hours each of elementary, intermediate, and advanced training. Those who complete the course successfully will be qualified as Drill Masters and may engage in the instruction of other groups.
One of the aims of this training is to standardize fire-fighting procedures and terminology among all the departments of the region, so that the members of any one department, called upon in an emergency to assist a neighboring department, will be able to man strange equipment and apparatus and "talk the same language" as other firemen.
Kenneth Snell, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Snell of Indian Hill Road, has been promoted to the rank of Corporal. He is stationed at Camp Pickett, Virginia.
Orange Post No. 127, American Legion, will hold its regular meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday evening, March 27, at 8 o'clock.
Miss Susan Wetherby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth D. Wetherby of Orange Center Road, will have as her guest during the spring vacation Miss Margaret Dunlap, of Big Horn, Wyoming. Miss Wetherby and Miss Dunlap are seniors at Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Jack Charbonneau, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Charbonneau of Hadley Road, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He is stationed at Camp Pickett, Virginia.
The Paugusset Club held a meeting last Friday evening, with Mrs. John Gamsby and Mrs. George Seyfert as Co-Chairment.
Four Orange girls have recently een invested as Girl Scoutgs of the Tenderfoot Class. They are Martha Scott, Jo Anne Atwood, Patty Perkins, and Sally Malec.
The members of Orange Post No. 127, American Legion, are most grateful to the people of Orange for their generous response to the Paper Drive held last Saturday. The date of the next drive, in about a month, will be announced later. Townspeople are asked to begin saving papers for it now.

WHEN FRIENDS MEET
"Hello, Grace. How are you and your family?"
"Just fine, Helen. You know, I am new in Orange, but I just came from the town gift shop -- and they have some lovely things."
"Yes, they do, Grace, and don't forget the little package store on the Post Road. You know, I have checked the chain stores in the city, and they get a dollar and five cents for six cans of Budweiser -- that's plus tax. At Art's Package Store you pay one dollar for the same thing. They have as good a price and selection as in any city store -- with plenty of parking space!"
"True, Grace, and if we would buy everything we can in the stores in Orange, we would get other stores here, and they would help pay taxes -- which, in turn, pay for our schools, our street lights, and other improvements."
"Right. Well, I have to go, Helen. See you at the Garden Club."
"All right, Grace. Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
