TV Newsreel
In the beginning when television first began its phenomenal climb to the top of the entertainment heap, the critics kept yelling ... "Enter the age of the TV moron. There's no hope for cultural advancement now." We hate to see 'em all eating their words. But we'd like to point out a few things that proved the critics wrong on all counts. Television has proved to be the best medium EVER DISCOVERED for the advancement of culture and education. In Los Angeles recently the TV eye picked up a telecast showing some of the outstanding art works from the world-famed collection of Herman Rothschild. For the first time in their lives ... many people were given a first-hand opportunity to see and hear about famous paintings from all over the world. The idea of televising art shows is picking up momentum too. And soon every museum in the country will be having its spot on TV. There's a lot of excitement in TV all right. You just have to SEE it to BELIEVE it.

Bethany Notes
In the weekly bowling competition at the Broadway Alleys, the Airport team came from behind to beat the Firemen 2 games to 1. This was largely due to high scores piled up by Dwight Johnson, Helen Sandora, and Clyde Hicks. Christ Church took 1 game from the Drillers, with Betty Withington making the second highest women's score this year. Willowcrest beat Andersons 2 games to 1, led by Bill Hoppe with a high 338 for three games. The Anderson's one game was made possible by a 123 score by mary Clark. Bob Downs starred for the Garage team, but they were beaten in 3 straight games by the Beckers, who still lead the league. With four more evenings of play coming up, there is a tight race between Pete Becker and Harold Simpson for High Average Score.
The Bethany Boys' Christ Church Basketball team defeated the Montowese Baptist team last Saturday evening by a score of 45 to 19, to remain undefeated in the second round of play for their division. Dick Johnson was high scorer with 13 points, while Giblin and Simpson tied for second place with 11 points. On next Saturday evening, in the first playoffs for the divisional championship, Bethany will play Bethseda LUtheran.
The Whirlwinds won the first round in the girls' intramural basketball games at the Bethany Community School. The team consists of Mary Bunting, Marylin Simpson, Phoebe Haines, Judy Hoppe, Susan Austin, Mary O'Rourke, and Margaret Koval, Captain.
